Adjusting Online Payments for the Dues Increase

If your club takes advantage of Toastmost’s online dues payments, the dues schedule should automatically account for the recently announced Toastmasters International dues increase. But I recommend you check whether any further adjustments need to be made.

Toastmost allows you to collect new member dues and renewals online, using the Stripe payments service. If you visit the Application and Dues tab of the Toastmasters settings screen, the TI dues schedule now defaults to $72 for 6 months, pro-rated by $12 per month depending on when a new member is joining. You can manually adjust this.

In the example shown below, the club charges for 7 months of dues if a member joins in the last month of the dues period (September or March) rather than collecting one month of dues and immediately asking the member to renew.

Advice for Online Dues Collection

Online dues collection at the club level has the advantage of convenience for the member and the treasurer. It allows the club to collect both international dues and club dues in one transaction. Stripe collects a fee, so you have to budget for that overhead when setting club dues. Stripe does offer a discount for nonprofits.

Asking members to do self pay through Toastmasters International has its advantages — including them worry about the transaction fees — but means any club dues must be collected separately.
